When you make the decision to go solar you have made a wise investment to your home and for the environment. However, when you want to install solar energy, you will need to figure out how much energy you will need. You’ll need to determine how many solar panels you will need to provide your home with enough power. Anytime Remodeling will share what you will need to consider when calculating your power requirements.
Solar Battery Storage
With solar energy, you will need to create enough power to supply you with energy during the day and the night. Since the panel requires the sun to create power, you will need to have a battery system that can store enough power to provide energy throughout the night. This will require enough power to be created during the day time to supply extra power to the batteries. Each battery will vary on how many amps it can store and receive per hour. There are two leading battery types used for solar energy: one is the Lead Acid battery and the other is the Li-Lon battery. Both are primarily used for solar power storage. Ask you installer about what types of batteries they supply and make sure to add extra power for storage needs when calculating for your power needs.
What Appliances Can Be Used with Solar Power?
Large appliances such as air conditioners and heaters, dryer, washing machines, and refrigerators, consume a lot of power. Some of these appliances are not running constantly. Due to the inconsistency of energy usage, they can make it difficult when determining how much power you will need. One way to best figure out how much power you use is by reviewing your energy bills. This doesn’t always help, especially if you’re moving into a new home and you want to have a solar system installed. However, if you been in the home for at least a full year, look at your highest energy bill that will provide a base line of how much power you use.
Solar Panel Power Output
Solar production varies from state to state and climates. California has the highest rated solar production due to the location of the state. However each type of solar product materials varies as well on how much solar energy it provides. Make sure you pay close attention to what products you plan to use and how much power it can create. If you’re going through an independent installer, ask about the products they use and how much power each panel creates. You may need more or less panels to provide enough energy to your home.
Solar Panel Placement
Another consideration is how your home is positioned and where would be the best place for the panels. You will want to have the panels installed facing the sun. Now not every home is positioned perfectly to put all the panels facing the sun. Some homes may need to spread out the panels for morning sun and other panels installed so it can capture afternoon sun. This will create the need for more panels to be used then homes that have a perfectly positioned home.
